Aladdin, Truly Spectacular

The name Aladdin sounds a little odd for a lowrider but it fits perfectly for this one as it looks totally out of the world. This 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire owned by John D’agastino is magic or a ‘Genie’ on wheels.

The best part of Aladdin is the halogen lights with the 1954 Chevy big tooth grill in the front that adds sparkle to the vehicle. Painted in beautiful candy apple red, this lowrider has got no door handles like most customs. As far as the tail lights are concerned, they are placed sideways to look stylish. But it doesn’t hamper the classy look of the original Starfire and blends perfectly well with its rocket like look.

Thus this lowrider car has the classic looks of the original Starfire but yet stylish and is truly spectacular.

An Exotic Red Roadster at the Goodguys Show

Ford Roadsters have ruled the roads for many years and they are even considered as well known examples of typical hot rods. We came across an all red 1932 Ford Roadster at the last year's Goodguys Auto Show. Owned by Mac Boone, this hot rod boasts of a Chevy ZZ430 engine, which pumps out over 400hp.

The unique feature of this car is that it's totally red from top to bottom with even red tail lights, red running boards, red fenders, and the red engine. It also has strips inset into the running boards and the color used is an 'hot meltdown' shade of red, not used by any make till now. With a 5-speed manual transmission and custom made gauges made to fit the color of the car, this one's an exotic in its own way amongst other lowriders, hot rods and custom cars.

1959 Chevy Corvette at the Goodguys Auto Show

Hola, it was raining hot rods, lowriders and custom cars in the last 2008 Goodguys Auto Show held in California. Founded by Gary Meadors in 1983, Goodguys rod and custom association organizes and promotes some of the biggest automotive events in the country.

As we were strolling across the booths, one of us bumped into a striking 1959 Chevy Corvette coated in eyecandy Orange. This beauty has an LS2 Chevy engine that pumps out 550hp and according to the owner, Al Hughes, everything in the hot rod is computer controlled. Now that's called east meets west, huh!

There's an added console in the car that comes between the seats. The door handles and gauges are modified and implemented with new methods while maintaining its retro look. We came to know that this hot rod is on sale and it will be all yours if you're ready to shed down $175,000 American Dollars! We say, the deal's worth it!

1967 Camaro – A Unique Muscle at the Goodguys Show

Here comes another lowrider car, or should we say muscle car? Found at the 2008 Goodguys show that was held in California, this 1967 Camaro owned by John Hodson is totally rebuilt and replaced to give it a new cool look.

This Camaro comes incorporated with a powerful engine that produces around 600hp and lots of torque. As John explains it also has Baer brakes installed both on front and rear. It also sports a sexy pair of Budnik wheels with 20/10 in the rear and 18/7 upfront.

The interiors are emaculate with a complex look and even a textured finish to the console. As these are not enough, it's also stuffed with 3.5 inches exhaust to roar on its way! It was refreshing to catch a glimpse of this muscle among the other custom cars, hot rods and lowriders at the show.

Re-Vamped 67 Chevy Nova at the Goodguys Show

Goodguys with its reputation as the world's largest rod and custom association is well known for some of the most dynamic automotive events organized all over the state. With over 20 events held under its name annually across the country, its shows are often flocked by exclusive hot rods, lowriders, vintages and even extravagant customs. With the total number of members crossing over 60000, it's definitely one of the biggest auto show and event organizers.

Even last year's show was no less surprise with many classic hot rods and lowriders making their way in the show. Luckily, we came across a heavily modified 1967 Chevy Novastar with its top chopped off by 2 inches. Installed with 1961 Impala trims on both sides and dashing hand-built taillights, it also had a longer trunk lid and S10 hood. Even the interiors were furnished with utter perfection along with touch button transmission system. Hey wait, we forgot to mention about its monstrous 'Colorado customs' wheels with 20/10 in the rear and 18/8 in the front. Sounds great, huh?

Gotta say, this Maurice Hoover owned 575hp mean machine was the real show stealer at the 2008 Goodguys Auto show held in California.

How to Make your Low Rider Car Dance?

The most coveted type of suspension is a hydraulic suspension. A hydraulic suspension can quickly raise and lower the cars, making it hop and jump -- or dance. Some low rider shows have dancing car contests where hydraulic lowriders actually dance.

A hydraulic suspension uses a hydraulic actuator -- a bladder that can be filled quickly with fluid. It's attached to a compressor, which shoots liquid into the actuator with incredible force, causing it to expand rapidly. Think of it as a small explosion within the actuator. The actuator expands with the force of the fluid entering it and as it does so, it pushes hard on the components around it, causing them to spring away.

This is the same principle that you'd use to jump off the ground. You exert a force from your legs against the ground, and that force propels you upward. When the force is removed (because you're no longer touching the ground) you come back down. Actuator systems exert force that causes the car to push against the ground. Since the ground isn't going anywhere, the car goes up. This is the technique behind Hydraulics lowrider dance.

Food is a part of the Beauty of La Jolla

La Jolla is an absolute touristic paradise. The beaches and rocky shorelines would make an artist itch for a paintbrush. The richness of the surroundings also coincide with the economical state of the people living here. It’s quite a wealthy and flourishing seaside resort. You’ll love shopping at the jewelry stores, visiting the parks, and binging in La Jolla restaurants.

Among a number of attractions, the upmarket restaurant and hotels are a standout. You’ll spot an obvious majority of Italian restaurants when you seek for the best restaurants in La Jolla. The locals would definitly direct you towards their favorites, Girard Gourmet and Harry’s Coffee. But what tops the list among the rest is Cody’s All American Café. The sage sausage here is supposed to be mouthwatering.

Seafood, steak and Italian joints feature in the top few restaurants of the town. You can check out La Valencia Hotel for its architectural splendor, but not everyone’s pockets can afford the luxury of dining there. So drop into any of the other delightful options that La Jolla has to offer.

4 Tips to Maintain Low Rider Engines

Besides the chrome intakes and EnduraShine carburetor combinations that have become a standard upgrade to most lowriders builds, it’s important to build engines that are going to last and are able to take the upgrades. Budget is also a constraint, as economy goes worse. Check out these simple tips to maintain your low rider engines.

  1. Pick the right oil for your engine block. If the lube is not the correct one for your engine, it can thin out from the heat that's created, especially with all of the chrome-plated and billet parts that most builders are adding to their custom lowriders today. Choose oil that would provide high heat protection and help prevent oil from boiling away.
  1. Pick the right heads for your engine. A new set of heads on your classic motor will modernize it and give it a little more power, without sacrificing any performance
  1. Valvetrain upgrade, featuring a rolling lifter, cam, and rockers setup is another trick that could be done. Most modern stock engines are equipped with this style to allow a smoother operating setup.
  1. One of the most popular new performance tricks for custom engines is to add a serpentine drive system, similar to those found on most of today's stock cars and trucks.

Livin' the Low Life – Season 2 from January 20

Livin’ the Low Life begins its second season on Jan 20 at 8.pm. It’s all set to start with a look at the cultural phenomenon of the lowriders. Lowriders are cars customized to run as low to the ground as possible. On the West coast, the low rider clubs are like families, and members spend heavily on their rides.

In the last season, the show focused on different styles of the cars. In the second season, the focus will be the people and their lifestyle. The channel looks at tapping the community which is much bigger than what they thought it would be.

The show will be hosted by the low rider girl, Vida Guerra. Guerra is best known as a model, often appearing in lingerie - or less - and being on virtually every "hottest babe" list imaginable. Growing up in Perth Amboy, N.J., this model and actress knew little about the lowrider car clubs of Los Angeles. But as the host of the show, she wishes that the show will help her propel her Hollywood career.

Catch Livin’ the Low Life Season 2 Episode 1 on January 20th only on Speed channel.
